Michael Igbinedion sentenced to 6 years imprisonment over N25bn scam but gets an option of N3m fine

Michael Igbinedion, younger brother of former Edo state governor, Lucky Igbinedion was today sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for charges bothering on money laundering. Michael, alongside one Mr Patrick Eboigbodin, an aide to former Governor Lucky Igbinedion were dragged before a federal high court in Benin city on an 81 count charge bordering on money laundering said to be carried out while Lucky Igbinedion was still governor of Edo state. Delivering his judgement, Justice A.M Liman sentenced Michael Igbinedion to 6 years imprisonment with an option of fine of N1million for each of the three counts 79, 80 and 81, for which he was convicted. Mr Eboigbodin was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment without an option of fine. The accused used four companies, Gava Corporation Limited, Romrig Nigeria Limited, PML Securities Company Limited and PML Nigeria Limited to launder money.

Femi Fani Kayode Speaks Again, Brags To remain In PDP

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode says he will remain in the PDP despite the party's loss at the just concluded presidential election. Fani-Kayode, who served as the spokesperson for the PDP Presidential campaign organization said he won't run away from Nigeria & that he and some other party members will stay to form a viable opposition party. He said this at the handover of the presidential campaign report in Abuja today April 30th. "I have been in the PDP since 2003. I went to APC for 9 months. I have enunciated the reasons for that. Ekiti 19 APC Lawmakers Cancel Peace Meeting Over Secret Arrest Plot

The 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Ekiti State House of Assembly have cancelled a peace meeting brokered by Chief Afe Babalola slated for today at Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti. The cancellation is sequel to a secret plan to use the meeting as a booby trap to seize the members as they approach the university campus. Government House sources said that Governor Ayodele Fayose was celebrating with his aides last night that he had succeeded in getting over his impeachment plot. He was quoted as saying that the lawmakers will be arrested without even seeing Chief Babalola and they will be in detention until June 1. Security sources confirmed last night they could not guarantee the lawmakers’ safety and advised that they should watch their movement. Rivers state chapter of the APC has accused the state governor-elect, Mr. Ezebuwon Nyesom Wike, of planning to jump ship and join the All Progressives Congress, APC, as a means of shielding himself from been sacked by election petition tribunal. Belgian footballer dies after collapsing during a match

24 year old Belgian footballer Gregory Mertens died today April 30th in the hospital, three days after he collapsed during a match. Doctors said he died of heart failure. The former Belgium Under-21 international fell during the first half of a match on Monday April 27th. He was first treated on the pitch but when they realized it was serious, he was rushed to the hospital where he was placed on life support. His condition didn't improve and today his family agreed his life support should be switched off. He passed away around 4pm today. "Gregory was only one-and-a-half years at the club, but in that short time his quiet modesty made him an indispensable person. Now we will have to learn to live with the loss." his club said in a statement. May his soul rest in peace, amen.

Yesterday, Wednesday, April 29, Kate Middleton, 33, and her Husband Prince William, 32, left their Kensington Palace home around 11 a.m and headed towards Buckhiham palace to celebrate their wedding anniversary. The royals celebrated their 4th wedding anniversary on the low-key day, marking the moment that they said "I do" privately. The couple got married on April 29, 2011, in the festive ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

FG finally pays N156bn debt to oil marketers

The Federal Government on Thursday said it had paid N156 billion debt to oil marketers in line with its commitment to prioritise payments in spite of revenue constraints. This is contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the Coordinating Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr Paul Nwabuikwu, on Thursday in Abuja. The statement stated that the payment had two components comprising `I owe you’ (IOU), given in March and interest on payment. “The first consists of the cash backing of the N100 billion IOU which the marketers were given in March. The second is N56 billion in interest payments for the marketers according to the PPPRA template. “This leaves a balance of N98 billion certified by PPPRA as the amount owed the markers,” it stated. It explained that the N156 billion was the latest in a series of significant payments made to the oil marketers within the last five months. President Zuma calls GEJ over xenophobic attacks

President Zuma of South Africa has reportedly put a call across to President Jonathan to express his sadness over the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa. He appealed to President Jonathan not to allow the incident affect the bilateral relationship between the two countries. Reports of the phone call is contained in a statement released by the office of the South African president today April 30th. The statement in part below “The two Presidents reaffirmed the warm and cordial relations between South Africa and Nigeria and pledged that the two countries will continue to work together for the good of their peoples and the continent as a whole. President Jonathan expressed his support for the efforts of South Africa to arrest the attacks on foreign nationals and to ensure the safety and security of all citizens, including foreign nationals and those from the African continent in particular, who bore the brunt of the attacks earlier this month (April).”

Man beats mother to death in Enugu

MEN of the Enugu police command are presently investigating double tragedy in the State in which a son hacked his father to death, while in another separate incident, a mother was beaten to death by her own son. The State Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebere Amaraizu in a press statement in Enugu yesterday who confirmed the two gory incidents gave a vivid account of the incidents. Executed Andrew Chan writes haunting letter to children around the world, warning them about the dangers of drugs

Andrew Chan is one of the 8 people executed in Indonesia two days ago. He was known as the Bali 9 ringleader. Before he was executed by a firing squad, Andrew wrote haunting letter to schoolchildren around the world where he revealed how he became addicted to drugs at age 15 and warns teens not to follow his footsteps. The letter was read out  Chan himself from inside his Indonesian prison cell,  as part of a documentary made available to schools.
