Former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, released a statement today alleging that Speaker Yakubu Dogara was bribing some lawmakers with $25,000 each to sign a vote of confidence for him and three other principal officers he has accused of budget padding. The Federal Executive Council at its meeting today approved the establishment of a seaport in Badagry, Lagos to bring in big vessels into the country. Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, disclosed this to State House correspondents after the meeting presided by President Buhari. According to Fashola, the new port would cost $2.58 billion and would be completed in five years.

He said the fact that the economy was in recession should not be a surprise since it was a product of bad policies. Amaechi, who said the country went into recession under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, added that the previous administration covered up with the excuse that the country was cash-strapped. A House of Representatives Member representing Mashi/Dutsi federal constituency Katsina, Sani Bello has been kidnapped. Police in Katsina confirmed that Bello was abducted alongside his aide at Goburawa village, Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna State on his way to the farm. The incident was also confirmed by a twitter user Hadi Sirika, from same constituency as Sani Bello.

Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has revealed details  why he visited President Muhammadu Buhari today  at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra State arrested a 31-year-old man on July 28, for allegedly peddling hard drug worth N1.78 billion. The Commander, Mr. Sule Momodu, said the suspect identified as Vincent Chidiebere was arrested in Awka, the state capital, with methamphetamine weighing 25.2kg. A kilogramme of the drug cost about $150,000. He said the arrest was made following a tip-off that a shipment of the drug would pass through Anambra from Enugu to Lagos. Speaking to reporters, he said:  "Based on the information, we set up a team to search vehicles from a particular company. About 11am we intercepted a vehicle carrying the substance and nabbed the suspect." Momodu, described the drug as "one of the most potent illicit drugs in the world, which has a lot of destructive tendencies on the user, adding that anyone under the influence of the dangerous drug can be influenced to make disastrous decisions. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission today arraigned Abiodun Agbele, aide to the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, on an eleven count charge bordering on conspiracy to launder the sum of over N4.6 billon. In a statement released today, the commission reported that Abgele, alongside Musliu Obanikoro, former Minister of Defence for State, Sylvan Mcnamara Ltd, Lt. A.O Adewale, Tunde Oshinowo and Olalekan Ogunseye, all at large were alleged to have laundered monies transferred from the Office of the National Security Adviser with Central Bank of Nigeria, Col. Mohammed Sambo Dasuki (Rtd). The defendant pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him. Former President Goodluck Jonathan met with President Muhammadu Buhari few hours ago at the president’s office in Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. We had earlier reported that Jonathan arrived the Villa at exactly 2:00 pm and went straight to the president’s office. President Buhari who had gone to the Villa Mosque straight from the council chamber where he presided over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council, was reportedly observing his afternoon prayer at the Villa Mosque when Jonathan came calling. The president came out immediately after the prayer to meet with Jonathan. This is the 4th time Jonathan is visiting his successor. Two of the alleged thieves being burnt Two suspected miscreants have been lynched at the Federal University of Technology in Owerri, Imo State during a failed criminal operation. According to an eye witness, the event took place at Umuchima area around Laffarge in Owerri as three robbers stormed the students-populated zone to rob them of their belongings. One of the outlaws escaped while two others were nabbed by a daring mob. The robbers were beated blue black after which their bodies were set on fire as a deterrent to other culprits patronizing the area. Many students were happy about the burning of the criminals. They said that for the past few months, robbers have been disturbing students all over Umuchima and every day they pray for this day of reckoning for the miscreants. See more photos:
