Find the EFCC press statement below The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on  Friday 28, 2014, secured the conviction of a top prison officer as Justice J.J Majebi of the Kogi State High Court, Okene, convicted and sentenced Joseph Friday Idachaba, Deputy Controller of Prisons, to 7 years imprisonment for offences bordering on obtaining money by false pretense.  The convict is to pay the sum of N1, 403,114.09 in restitution to Nigeria Prison Service. Arraigned in 2012 on a three-count charge, the convict was found guilty on count three of the charge by the trial judge, who, however, acquitted him on two remaining counts. Count three of the charge reads: "That you Joseph Friday Idachaba (m) being a deputy comptroller of Nigeria Prisons Service, and Onoja D. Ado Ekiti—two policemen and two others, including a National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, member, were killed yesterday at Ikere Ekiti by armed robbers during an operation. The bandits were said to have stormed an old generation bank located at Kajola Street in the town at about 3.25p.m. The bandits were said to have shot indiscriminately in all directions to scare away people and attacked a police station near the bank. In the process, bullets were said to have hit a male police officer in his office and another female police on the forehead as she ran for cover. The NYSC member was said to have been killed while attempting to withdraw money from an ATM. The arrival of police and soldiers reportedly prevented the robbers from gaining entrance into the bank’s vaults, as the robbers were said to have fled on sighting the security operatives. The doctors at the Brazilian hospital where Brazilian football legend Pele is being treated for kidney disease say his condition is improving. According to local media reports, the 74 year old has been in intensive care unit since Monday Nov. 24th because of a urinary infection he got after having surgery to remove kidney stones on November 13th. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery as he's currently breathing normally without any support.

There was an explosion at the Central Mosque in Kano this afternoon as Muslim faithfuls were holding their Friday Jumat service. It's the same Mosque where Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido usually leads prayers but he wasn't there this afternoon. Many are feared dead. Details later....

Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, are currently staging a peaceful protest on their campus. The students say they are angry that all activities at their school have been suspended due to President Jonathan's visit. A riot broke out this morning in Lekki Phase 1 following thugs/motorcycle riders clash. The cause of the riot has not been fully established but according to some residents, the chairman of the Eti-Osa local government area allegedly engaged the services of touts to confiscate any motorcycle seen within the area. The touts allegedly beat up one of the Okada men after he refused to let them seize his motorcycle and this led to a serious fight between some of the Okada men, bus drivers and the thugs. The police was immediately called in to stop the riot from escalating. The gate leading to the estate was shut immediately. See some photos after the cut...

Afrobeat king, Femi Kuti says he recently found out that two out of the 5 children he always thought were his, weren't. In an interview with Encomium mag, Femi said a DNA test conducted on a boy and a girl named Tosin and Dupe who were born after his first son, Made, showed he's not their biological father. "I did a DNA test and was told two of the children are not mine. The first two (after Made), a boy and a girl. It is very serious. I never knew somebody could give you what is not yours. I’ve three boys now. I can’t father children I was tricked to believe I am their father,” he said Femi says he has since returned the children to their mothers.

Kristina, whose mother, Gilkeriya, is a former model and her father, Ruslan Pimenov, a retired footballer, started modeling at age 3 and has graced the covers of several high profile magazines and has already been the face of Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana, Armani and Benetton, among others. She has a lot of fans but her parents are now being criticized about how much she's being exposed at such ayoung age. They feel being a supermodel at age 9 is too much for young girl to cope with.
