Ondo State Police Command on Thursday, August 25, rescued a 4-year-old girl who was caged in Akure. The girl, a pupil of Temiloluwa Nursery and Primary school, Imafon, Akure North Local Government Area, was rescued by the personnel attached to the Juvenile Welfare Centre (JVC) of the command. Ondo State Police Commissioner, Hilda Ibifuro-Harrison, who confirmed the arrest to journalists from her office in Akure, said the culprit identified as Mary Matthew, a foster parent of the victim. She stated that Mrs. Matthew and her husband alleged that the young girl was possessed. "On receipt of the information, personnel attached to Juvenile Welfare Centre (JVC) visited the scene and met the girl in the cage as reported. She was immediately rescued and taken to the Police Clinic for proper medical attention. The culprit was paraded at the Ondo State Police Headquarters Command on Igbatoro road in Akure," Ms Ibifuro-Harrison said. Narrating how she w

Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has asked the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, to be more proactive in dealing with the problems of the Niger Delta region. Professor Soyinka, at a press conference in Lagos believes that the government is not doing enough in handling “the tension in the Niger Delta region”. Man brutalizes his 5 year old daughter in Lagos (photos)

A man named Sukurat Idowu, 45, has been arrested by the Lagos state police for brutalizing his 5 year old daughter at their home in Ikotun. The man, who works as a road side mechanic assaulted the little girl named Monsurat by beating her with hot iron and causing serious body injury... The suspect is currently being held by the command for the offence of child abuse. He was arrested after a concerned neighbour who witnessed the battery reported the case at Ikotun division.  The neighbour narrated to the police how the suspect sent the victim to go and dispose of the content of a potty in the latrine and the child fell into the gutter, an occurrence which infuriated the father and made him to beat her mercilessly with a hot iron. The suspect was subsequently arrested and the victim rescued. She is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital while the suspect is undergoing interrogation with the gender unit of the command. Chinakwe Joachim Iroko who was arrested on August 13th and arraigned before a Sango Magistrate court for naming his dog Buhari has fulfilled his bail condition and has been released from Prison custody. The court in its ruling on August 22nd granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties.

Kwara state police command yesterday paraded a Fulani herdsman named Abubakar Usman for allegedly killing his 65 years old mother, Khadijat Usman and his elder brother’s wife, Ramatu Shagari (35) in Patigi, Patigi local government area of the state on August 13th. While parading the suspect, the state Commissioner of Police, Olusola Amore, said Adamu who is known to be very violent, also macheted a cow in the Mamba Fulani camp for no reason. Usman, 25, said he does not know what came over him when he killed his family members. He said he had just returned home with his cows when he carried out the dastard act "On getting back home, something came over me and I used a knife to stab my mother. I also stabbed my brother’s wife. I believe that my father charmed me. Gunmen suspected to be cultists killed a man on Wednesday in Obiagu area, Enugu State. According to eyewitness, the victim, identified as Ayaka, was in his late 20s. The suspected cultists, armed with assault riffles, riddled his body with bullets and escaped before the police arrived.  The eyewitness reported that sporadic gunshots in the area disrupted activities as everyone ran for their lives while screaming and shouting. When the heavily built gunmen, about 10 of them, were done with the attack, they entered into two different cars, a Sienna and a Camry 2002 model and sped away. They also collected another Camry from a man at gun point. When calm was restored, people started going back to the scene where the shooting took place and saw the lifeless body which was thrown into a gutter. The police arrived after some minutes... Two students of the Imo state polytechnic, Umuagwo in Owerri, the Imo state capital, lost their lives yesterday in a fire outbreak at Infinity lodge at their school. Their remains have been deposited at the morgue. It is believed that the fire incident may be as a result of an upsurge in electricity. May their souls rest in peace, Amen. 

Niger Delta Avengers accuses Army troops of crude oil thefts

According to Militant group Niger Delta Avengers, they have video and pictorial evidence that show troops of the "Operation Delta Safe force", which was activated on June 24 with the mandate to stop all illegal oil bunkering activity, involvement in thefts. They also condemned security reports linking their militant forces to the killing of military troops. The statement read; "The High Command of the Niger Delta Avengers condemns the entire security reports linking our forces to the killing of military troops in Nembe Bayelsa state.
