Boko Haram: Some soldiers refuse to fight, demand better equipment

Image
About 40 Nigerian soldiers are reported to have refused orders from their superior to move to the North to fight Boko Haram, saying they will only obey the order if they are provided with better equipment. One of the mutineers who spoke anonymously with BBC Hausa said lack of good weapons and ammunition to fight the terror group is why a lot of soldiers get slaughtered by the insurgents, adding that the Nigerian army is not ready to fight Boko Haram “Soldiers are dying like fowl. The Nigerian army is not ready to fight Boko Haram. Boko Haram are inside the bush, everywhere. They (senior commanders) are sacrificing soldiers" he said. Continue... The mutineer also stated that the armored cars they are expected to use in battle are old and outdated. He said he could not be court marshaled by his superior for taking part in the mutiny because only soldiers who decline to take part in wars are court-marshaled, stating that he and his other colleagues...

Yes, unfortunately it's true. Just confirmed from a family source.  Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh, the  Senior Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist who was one of the doctors who attended to Patrick Sawyer at First Consultant Hospital has died from the Ebola virus which she  contracted  from Sawyer. Dr. Ameyo died this afternoon Tuesday August 19th at the isolation  unit of the Mainland Hospital in Lagos where she'd been quarantined. WHAT EBOLA WILL CAUSE: Woman Smashes Bottle On Friend’s Head Over Ebola

Image
A man who hugged a female friend in Ajah, Lagos got more than he bargained for when she smashed a bottle on his head. The victim, Ademola Ojikutu, was attacked by his pal, Bunmi, after he grabbed her from behind without her approval. The lady was said to have reacted by smashing a beer bottle on his head. According to reports, Bunmi had been shunning contact with her family members because she was trying to avoid being infected with the Ebola virus. Therefore, Ojikutu’s embrace set her on edge and led to the undesirable reaction. Her sister, Yemi said: “I was discussing with Bunmi at Ilaje area in Ajah when Ojikutu playfully grabbed her from behind. “Bunmi got angry and picked a bottle from a nearby beer parlour and smashed it on his head. “Blood gushed out from his head and people had to rush him to a nearby hospital in the area.” The Ebola virus was first reported in Nigeria last month and has now claimed 4 lives in the country.

Pope Francis: I could quit like Benedict or even die by 2017

Image
Pope Francis has suggested that he might one day resign the papacy like his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI did last year, which would make him the second consecutive Pope to do so after almost 600 years. He said this yesterday Aug. 18th while speaking with reporters on his way back to Rome after his state visit to South Korea. "Some theologians may say this is not right, but I think this way. Let us think about what [Benedict XVI] said, "I have gotten old, I do not have the strength", it was a beautiful gesture of nobility, of humility and courage. But you could say to me, if you at some time felt you could not go forward, I would do the same." Asked about his immense popularity, the Pope, 77, joked that he would probably die in the next 2/3 years so should not get too proud:  “I know this will last a short time, two or three years, and then to the house of the Father.” he said

In a related development, Liberia’s armed forces have reportedly been given orders to shoot people trying to illegally cross the border from neighbouring Sierra Leone, which was closed to stem the spread of ebola. Soldiers stationed in Bomi and Grand Cape Mount counties, which border Sierra Leone, were to “shoot on sight” any person trying to cross the border, said deputy chief of staff, Colonel Eric Dennis.
