EFCC Arraigns 60 year old Man for N37.5m Scam

A  60-year-old man, Vincent Odionu was on Monday September 29, 2014, arraigned before Justice M.A. Onyetenu of the Federal High Court, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a 2-count charge that borders on stealing, forgery and impersonation The accused person who is an agent to a brokerage firm, Lion Stockbrokers Limited, allegedly conspired with others to sell the shares of Onwubu Gibson Anake ( deceased) in several blue chip companies ( RT Briscoe, CFAO, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria, First Bank, Oando, Nigerian Breweries, etc) without authorisation. The total value of the shares sold by the accused is put at Thirty Seven Million, Five Hundred and Fifty Five Thousand Naira only. Texas man tests positive to Ebola in the US

The first case of the deadly Ebola virus diagnosed on US soil has occurred. A Texas man who just returned from Liberia to the US has tested positive to the deadly Ebola virus. Announcing the development today September 30th, America's Center for Disease Control said the unidentified man was asymptomatic when he arrived back from Liberia recently and only started showing suspicious symptoms yesterday, prompting his immediate check-in into a Dallas hospital where it was confirmed he had the dreaded viral disease after preliminary test was carried out on him. He has now been placed on strict isolation while a trace of all contacts he's made since his return back to America has commenced.

Three Boko Haram members sentenced to 25 years each

The Federal High Court in Lagos today Tuesday September 30th sentenced 3 Boko Haram members to 25 years imprisonment each,  The Nation  reports. However, journalists were not allowed to cover the judgment. Only lawyers in the prosecution and defence teams were allowed in court. A source, who witnessed the verdict, but craved anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, told reporters that the fourth defendant was acquitted. The court, on December 3 last year, barred journalists from covering the trial of 17 suspected members of the sect. Justice Ibrahim Buba made the order following an application by the Lagos State Attorney-General and prosecuting counsel, Mr. Ade Ipaye. Men of the Department of Security Services (DSS) had prevented journalists from covering the suspects’ arraignment last November 27. ‘How Prison Turned Me Into Hardened Criminal’

A 38-year old suspected armed robber paraded recently by the police in Lagos State, western Nigeria,    has confessed that he got his major training and contacts as a hardened criminal    in prison custody when he was serving a jail term for a criminal offence. He also confessed that his prison training toughened and helped him to reduce the mistakes that previously landed him in trouble and prison. The suspect, Joel Eghon, was paraded alongside six other members of his gang, including their leader, Chief Jude Dike, by the Police. Other members of the gang include, Ifeanyi Onwuegbuchi, 34, Solomon Igwe,32, Emmanuel Ifeanyi, 34, Ejike Emegwo, 31 and Leonard Afoaku, who buys the stolen items from them. Okada Man Catches Wife Pants Down In A Hotel With Colleague

A    divorce-seeking commercial motorcycle operator, Hakeem Yusuf, has narrated to an Alagbado Customary Court, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, how he caught his wife, Munirat red handed with his colleague in    a hotel. But his 40-year-old liquor vendor wife, who admitted to the crime, however said that the issue had been resolved amicably. Yusuf who is seeking an end to the 23-year-old union, told the court that problem started 15 years after they got married. His words: “I hear some married women engage in extramarital sex, but I had never imagined my wife getting involved in such an undisciplined act. UPDATE: Trial of alleged mutinous soldiers postponed

Nigeria’s military authorities have postponed till Thursday the General Court Martial of some 60 soldiers charged with alleged mutiny. The trial was to have been held at the Mogadishu Cantonment today in Abuja. The postponement of the trial was confirmed to newsmen on Tuesday by a military source, who did not want to be named. However, when contacted, the spokesman of the Garrison, Col. Aliyu Yusuf, claimed ignorance of the court martial but promised to inform journalists, whenever a date was fixed for the trial. The source also said lawyers representing the accused soldiers met with legal officers of the court martial on Tuesday morning and agreed to shift trial till Thursday because of the independence holiday on Wednesday. Two Nigerian sex slaves rescued in Burkina Faso

Two teenage Nigerian girls, Rejoice Chioma Israel, 16, (centre) and Rosemary ‎Uchenna Emmanuel, 19 (right), who were trafficked to Burkina Faso to become sex workers in the country have been rescued,  PM News  reports. The two girls left Nigeria on 11 July with a man who promised to take them to Malaysia via Burkina Faso for a better life. The trafficker explained to them that they will be given fresh passports and some vaccines in Burkina Faso before proceeding to Malaysia for well paid jobs. But once in Ouagadugu, the capital of Burkina Faso, they were handed over to a Nigerian woman called Onome who introduced them to prostitution. “The madam told us we will have to do ashawo (prostitution) or pay her N1.2 million each to take us back to Nigeria,” Rosemary said in an interview in Lagos on Tuesday. Victor and his younger brothers Victor (11 years-old, centre), Sheku (5 years-old, left) and Ibrahim (4 years-old, right) have just been released from the government-run treatment centre in Kenema, #SierraLeone, after surviving #Ebola. They spent over three weeks at the centre, where they lost their mother in the first few days. Victor - the eldest, said he did not cry when his mother died because he didn’t want to scare his little brothers, and because they were sick too. He spent his days taking care of them, making sure they were fed and well cared for.  Now the boys will be cared for by their grandmother as their father also died. Victor says he is anxious to start school again, whenever classes resume.

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has proven that age is just a number as he is set to go back to school. Obasanjo, 77, will today resume class as graduate student at the headquarters of the National Open University of Nigeria in Lagos for a higher degree in Christian Theology. Having obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in 2009, the Owu-born high chief will now be working towards a doctorate degree, beginning first with a Masters degree. Obasanjo told news site, Premium Times that he was going back to school because it was important for him to make some commitments towards achieving his aspirations in life. “I’m going back to school because I need something to aspire to in every endeavour of life.
