31 year old Carl Wheatley was yesterday May 13th found guilty of murder in the beating death of his 4 year old daughter, Alex Marie (both pictured above). The father, who attacked his own daughter in a fit of rage, caused 66 injuries to her and knocked out two of her teeth over a series of savage attacks in the weeks running up to her death. When he finally called emergency services, they discovered the lifeless body of Alexa-Marie Quinn and he admitted he had lost his temper. The killer had been granted custody of his daughter just three months before her death on March 12 last year, after convincing social workers he could look after her. She had previously been living with foster parents. During the trial, the court heard young Alexa-Marie had probably been dead for several hours before paramedics arrived at their home in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. According to new statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics NBS in Abuja today May 14th, 22.6 million Nigerians were unemployed in the four quarter of the year 2014. At the Unemployment Methodology Review forum in Abuja today, the Statistician General of the Federation, Dr. Yemi Kale said out of 22,620,202 unemployed Nigerians, 4,672,067 million were unemployed in the fourth quarter, 7,027941 million were unemployed in the 3rd quarter and 5,307,375 million was unemployed in the second quarter, while 5,612, 819 million were unemployed in the first quarter of the year under review. According to NBS, the figure increased by 21 per cent from 7,078,450 million (10.0%) recorded in the previous year. The statistics also showed that 17.9 per cent of the figure was under employed in the country in the year under review.

A 30 year old Nigerian female student in Malaysia identified as Mary George Unazi, was sentenced to death by the Malaysian High Court today May 14th for trafficking 765.9gm of metamphetamine at the KL International Airport (KLIA) on May 10th 2011. The presiding judge, Judge Datuk Ghazali Cha, while delivering his judgement said all evidence brought against her proved that she was indeed guilty of trafficking the banned substance. He said she had failed on her part to convince the court that the bag which contained the substance wasn't hers Unazi was arrested at the baggage claim area at the international arrival hall of KLIA. She was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 of Malaysia which carries a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

This LASTMA official was beaten by workers in an area in Ikorodu today. According to the twitter user who shared the photos, the LASTMA official was trying to arrest a man who he said broke traffic rules, but the driver refused to stop and quickly drove into the premises of the company where he worked. The LASTMA official followed the driver into the premises, started an argument with him and his colleagues and they descended on him after he refused to leave. Other passers-by came to his rescue. Residents of Afugiri in Umuahia North local government area of Abia state have been shocked and confused following the tragic news about a mysterious death of a blind prophet, Onyenonachi Agwu, his wife, two children and landlady. A mother accused of beating her two-year-old daughter to death with her lover 'to stop her crying' is facing life in jail. Maribel Palacios Posada, 24, and her boyfriend Gerardo Gonzalez Mayoral, 27, are said to have murdered the child at their home in Mexico City. The couple initially claimed the girl had sustained her injuries falling down the stairs - but under further questioning Posada confessed that she and her partner regularly beat her daughter when she cried. A teenager and her boyfriend were allegedly beaten to death and then burnt on the same pyre for daring to fall in love in India’s Bihar state.  The incident took place in Ametha village in southern Bihar’s Gaya district on Wednesday, sending shock waves in the area. According to  Gulf news, Police said 25-year-old Jaiyram Manjhi, a father of three children, had fallen in love with a 16-year-old Parvati Kumari, his relative, a relationship which was opposed by the girl’s family.  Manjhi eloped with the girl a few days ago, setting off the chain of events.  Extensive searches were first made for the absconding pair but their families failed to locate them.  Manjhi hailed from Kasiadih village whereas Kumari was from close-by Ametha.  On Wednesday, they were seen near a local railway station while trying to flee the area and brought back to Ametha village.
