ALERT: Ebola Scare In Anambra State

A corpse was brought from Liberia to the state. The Anambra Commissioner of Health, Josephat Akabuike, announced on Thursday that a hospital has been sealed off and its workers and patients quarantined due to Ebola disease scare. Briefing journalists in Awka, Ms. Akabuike said the measure followed information received by the government that a man whose body was brought back from Liberia at the weekend, might have died of the killer disease. He said that information available to the government indicated that the body was brought back from Liberia through Lagos and deposited in the mortuary at Nkwelle-Ezenaka in Oyi Local Government of the state. “Part of the briefing is to tell you what we are doing to make sure we don’t allow the deadly virus to come into the state. “What actually called for this is that we have a report that a corpse was brought through Lagos and the deceased was said to have been taken from Liberia where of course you know there are cases of the disease.

The Christian mother who was put on death row in Sudan for refusing to convert to Islam is finally on her way to a new life in the United States. Meriam Ibrahim, who was imprisoned for apostasy after refusing to renounce her Christian faith, left Rome this morning on a flight bound for Philadelphia, according to the campaigner who secured her release.  The mother-of-two, accompanied by husband Daniel, a U.S. citizen, and children Martin and Maya will then change planes to fly to New Hampshire, according to Antonella Napoli, director of Italians for Darfur. House On The Rock Church Bans Wearing Of Mini Skirts

According to sources, the head pastor of the House On The Rock Church, Paul Adefarasin has prohibited female members from wearing miniskirts in the church. The information was passed by Pastor Adefarasin on Sunday before he began preaching. He said , “I will assume that the members that do this , are probably new or uninformed ones.”  “But we don’t allow mini skirts in this church. If you must wear something short, make sure it covers your knees. Otherwise, an usher might need to come and complete your dressing,” he continued. A woman stripped naked in Nelson Mandela Square in Johannesburg and caressed a huge statue of the liberation hero as astonished bystanders looked on, local media reported on Wednesday. The young African woman first saluted the statue of the former president, who is revered for his role in defeating the racist apartheid system, before disrobing, witnesses said. A picture posted on Twitter showed her naked and leaning her head against the knee of the statue in an upmarket area of South Africa's commercial capital. A waitress at a nearby restaurant told The Star newspaper that the woman's actions, at around 4.00pm on a busy Monday, had caused a frenzy. Patiant In High Pressure Oxygen Chamber lights Up A Cigarette and blew up himself

A Chinese man has died after he blew up the hospital ward he was on when he decided to smoke a cigarette while undergoing treatment in a high-pressure oxygen chamber.  Liu Hung, 65 was put inside the hyperbaric chamber at the Nanxiong People's Hospital in Nanxiong city in south-eastern China's Guangdong province to help a head wound heal more quickly.  It is thought that while the doors of the chamber were closed, he saw the opportunity to grab a quick cigarette, presumably thinking that nobody would see him. But it is believed that the cigarette then set fire to the bed linen, which quickly turned into an inferno when it reacted with the oxygen rich atmosphere inside the small chamber It caused an explosion which destroyed the chamber and killed Mr Hung in the fireball.  Health and safety experts together with firemen who investigated the explosion said that the man's body had been completely charred and that they found a melted lighter, which they beli

A mentally disturbed man in the Alakija area of Lagos was taken into custody after he stabbed two police officers. The incident occurred when the victims allegedly attempted to send an insane woman off the premises of a church. This did not go down well with the man who rose to the woman's defence and tried to stop the police. Unfortunately for him, the officers turned their attention to him and assaulted him with their batons. This led the man to use a stick on the police and when that did not work, he allegedly stabbed two of them with a broken bottlle. Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has denied saying the Commonwealth Games are 'a bit sh*t' after he was quoted by The Times newspaper as saying it during an interview with one of its sports reporters. Another Suspected Case Of Ebola Virus In Nigeria as Man who helped dead Liberian from plane down with fever

The country may have recorded another case of Ebola as latest report has shown that the man who assisted late Mr. Patrick Sawyer, a Liberian who died of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in Lagos, is now down with symptoms, suspected to be EVD. A reliable source yesterday, confirmed receipt of a short message service (SMS) text that the person who aided Sawyer to move out of the plane is presenting symptoms, identifiable with EVD. “In fact, I just got a text that the person who helped Sawyer, the Liberian, to get out of the air plane is down with a suspected case of Ebola. You can see we have to be very careful,” the source said. He further said that the latest victim is among those who were being quarantined for having first contact with the victim (late Sawyer). Meanwhile, Lagos state has said none of the 59 contacts is sick for now. UPDATE: Bombers attack Kano poly, Potiskum mosque, kill 16

Another female suicide bomber struck at the Kano Polytechnic on Wednesday, killing two people. There was however conflicting figures by government agencies on the number of those injured by the bomber who also died in the process. While the state police command put the injured at six, the National Information Centre said 13. Before news of the incident which occurred at about 2.30pm on Wednesday, there were reports that   Boko Haram insurgents killed 13 people in a   mosque and market in Potiskum,   Yobe State. The fresh Kano bombing led to a stampede among members of staff of the institution and final year students who were going through a list of successful graduates mobilised for the Batch B of the National Youth Service Corps.
