BE AT ALERT O!!: ‘Nigerian Nurse infected with EBOLA fled quarantine centre’

One of the nurses who had previously had contact with the Liberian Ebola patient Patrick Sawyer, fled her quarantine center in Lagos and returned to her home in Enugu, exposing about 20 people who she came in contact with to the deadly virus. Information Minister Labaran Makuwho disclosed this said the nurse and the  20 others people who she came in contact with are all under surveillance in Enugu.  189 people are now being monitored in Nigeria. Three have died from the disease: Patrick Sawyer, the Liberian-American businessman who collapsed in Lagos, an attending nurse, and an ECOWAS staffer who worked with Sawyer. Source: Sahara Reporters

Brazil presidential candidate Campos 'in plane crash'

Presidential candidate Eduardo Campos was on board the plane, say party members A plane reportedly carrying the Brazilian presidential candidate Eduardo Campos has crashed in a residential area of the port city of Santos, in Brazil's Sao Paulo state. The plane was frequently used by Mr Campos who is running for president for the Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB). Party members said he was on board at the time of the crash. Firefighters said there were 10 "victims" but did not clarify if the 10 were injured or dead. Friends and colleagues of Mr Campos said they were "very worried" by the fact they had not been able to make contact with Mr Santos since the crash. PSB member Rodrigo Rollemberg said Eduardo Campos had been on board the plane along with his wife Renata, and his son Miguel. SHOCKING: 19 Year Old Boy Arrested For Having Sex With A Dog In Edo

A boy in Edo state has been apprehended after he allegedly had sexual intercourse with a dog. The incident occurred in Iguosa, a community in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Benin City, the state capital. The suspect, Osagiator Ighodaro said: “I was going on the street and the dog kept following me and I carried it like a baby and thereafter I took it to an uncompleted building where I did what I did to it. It was there that one man came into the building and arrested me,” A  resident of the area explained how the teenager was caught: “When I saw the young man carrying the dog like a baby, I decided to tell the owner and advised him to go into the uncompleted building. I told him to go round the house while I went through the other side and we saw him having sex with the dog,” The owner of the animal, one Garba Samari told security officials that he had no further need of the dog and that it should be taken along with the suspect.

Enugu Dep Gov, Onyebuchi, slumps before Impeachment Panel

The deputy Governor of Enugu state,  Sunday  Onyebuchi this morning August 13th slumped before the impeachment panel set up to investigate allegations of gross misconduct and unlawful rearing of chickens in his official residence leveled against him by the State House of Assembly. According to Vanguard, the Deputy governor arrived the panel sitting at about  9am  in company of his wife Mrs Nneka Onyebuchi, his children as well as his legal team. He began his testimony in front of the panel around  9.30am  but three hours later, around 11.35am, he slumped and was immediately rushed out of the premises to the hospital where he is receiving treatment.

5 Ebola Patients Are Improving, Governor Fashola Says

A bright light has been shone into the darkness of the current Ebola outbreak as Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos has said that some of the patients are getting better. Fashola disclosed this during a series of meetings with religious leaders, chairmen and health workers of the 57 local councils in the state. He said: “We now have 10 persons in isolation that are receiving treatment. Eight of them have been confirmed positive for the Ebola Virus Disease. We are still waiting for the results of the remaining two persons. "All of them are stable, which means that they are not deteriorating. Five of them have really improved. This means they are fighting back. It confirms that Ebola is not an automatic death sentence if we do the right thing at the right time” The number of cases officially on record in Nigeria has now reached 10 after the virus was brought into Lagos by Liberian-American, Patrick Sawyer.

The Ebola scourge has struck fear in many hearts and Nigerian prostitutes have said that this is affecting their business. The sex workers, under the umbrella of the  Association of Nigerian Prostitutes , sent out a warning to all the women of the night in the country. This was disclosed via a statement prepared after a meeting of the organization in Lagos on Monday. Ebola: Private Hospitals Reject Patients With Fever Symptoms

Some private hospitals in Lagos yesterday Tuesday August 12th rejected treating patients who visited them with symptoms of fever as part of measures being taking to prevent contracting the Ebola virus.  A visit by the News Agency of Nigeria to some hospitals in Lagos Metropolis showed that nurses and other health workers, including cleaners were seen wearing face mask and gloves while attending to patients.  Also, some of the health facilities were compelling patients to wash their hands and apply sanitisers before proceeding into their building.  Some of the hospitals visited included Jaycee Hospital, Prime Hospital, Lifeline Children’s Hospital and Providence Hospital.  A Neurologist at Jaycee Hospital, Dr. Francis Ojini, told NAN that his hospital did not attend to patients who had with fever.  Ojini said that it became necessary as health workers were at greater risk of contracting the virus.  “Health workers are the f...

Nigeria approves use of experimental drug, Zmapp, on Ebola patients

The National Health Research Ethics Committee, Nigeria, has approved the use of an experimental Ebola drug, Zmapp, for treatment of patients infected with the virus.   The committee, which composed research scientists, is a national body under the Federal Ministry of Health. The endorsement is contained in a statement issued to newsmen by Prof.  Clement Adebamowo, Chairman of the committee  on Wednesday  in Abuja. Continue... Controversial artist turned writer, Paul Uche Ejikeme aka Etcetera says there is no music industry in Nigeria yet. When asked what he would do if he had the opportunity to change anything in the Nigerian music industry, he said; "There is no industry yet my brother. So the only thing that can be changed is everything. What we have is just a bunch of hardworking individuals swimming against the tide to make a living for themselves. We need structures to have an industry. I used robbery proceeds to train my daughter in school - robbery suspect

A member of an armed robbery gang who gave his name as Afeez said he used the proceeds he got from armed robbery to send his daughter to school. Afeez and his partner Wasiu were apprehended recently by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, Lagos at a checkpoint in Mushin while on their way to an operation.  According to the police, the young men  boarded a taxi at Oshodi around 11pm and were heading to Mushin when they came across a police checkpoint. Seeing the police checkpoint ahead, they became jittery, commanding the cab man to stop them and even tried forcing the door open. The taxi driver suspecting that they were criminals drove quickly to the police checkpoint where he immediately intimated the police officers of his suspicions.
