Businesswoman Loses N5m She Buried Underground In Lagos

Image
There was a mild drama on Monday in the Daleko Market, Mushin, Lagos State, as journalists searched in vain for an unidentified trader who was said to have lost huge sums of money buried in her shop to the fire incident that razed the market on Sunday. One of the traders, who spoke to Punch, said the businesswoman was in the habit of keeping her money in the underground, instead of a bank. The trader who pleaded anonymity said: “The woman usually keeps money in her shop, and would use her goods to cover it. But we are not sure if the whole money was destroyed by the fire. The theory here is that those that arrived first at the market saw the money and stole it.” While some said the money she lost was between N2m to N5m, others put it higher than that. But an attempt to speak with the woman was unsuccessful as she was said to have gone to Alausa with other market leaders. No fewer than 120 shops were affected in the fire that started around 1:00am as a result of a power surge. A ri

MISSING GIRLS: Traditional Nigerian Hunters Want to Find Girls

Image
Traditional hunters armed with homemade guns, poisoned spears and amulets have gathered in their hundreds, eager to use their skills and what they believe to be supernatural powers to help find nearly 300 schoolgirls abducted by Islamic extremists. Some 500 hunters, some as young as 18 and some in their 80s, say they have been specially selected by their peers for their spiritual hunting skills and have been waiting for two weeks in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital and the birthplace of Boko Haram, to get backing from the military and get moving. With Nigeria's military accused by many citizens of not doing enough to rescue the girls, the hunters demonstrated their skills to an Associated Press reporter on Sunday. Cow horn trumpets echoed eerie war cries from the screaming and chanting men as they twirled knives and swords with dexterity, occasionally stabbing and cutting themselves with no apparent harm. The hunters claimed their magic charms prevented any blood being dra

Customs Officer Boasts Of Dirty Deed After Bathing Woman With Acid

Image
A Nigerian Customs officer known as Mr. Nwaeze has boasted that he is “above arrest,” after bathing a woman in a deadly acid solution two weeks ago. Mr. Nwaeze who is said to head a Customs unit at Mosafejo Aradagun, is quoted as boasting he "can do and undo". The victim is Ms. Tope Fadipe. She is Salesgirl at a local food store run by Mr. Nwaeze's family. She had been selling stocks for the family for about three years before the incident. On Friday, the 9th May, 2014, she was accused of not remitting N50,000 stock sales, and she had argued her defense. However, community residents say, Mr. Nwaeze got frenzied at her refuting the allegation, and a heated argument escalated where he alledgedly had bathed her with a deadly acid solution. Sympathizers say the matter was reported at the Badagry Police Station, and Mr. Nwaeze had boasted no one could arrest him. On Saturday, the 10th of May, one day after the incident, Mr. Nwaeze was said to have

Actress Can Sléep With Director, No Big Deal ––Movie Director

Image
With men like this around, the case of séxual gratification for movie roles will go on and even get worst. He is a new movie director, Aniedi Awah Noba. He said he can sléep with any actress he likes and give her a movie role, so long as the actress likes him too and he didn't force her. Here is what the man told Vanguard: “If a director is a man and the actress is a woman and they find themselves attracted to each other, they’re permitted to do anything because they are adults. Where it becomes bad is when one person puts a gun on the other person’s head and make unhealthy demands through some blackmail." The truth of the matter is, you don't need to force girls, just say you wont give them the job is indirect forcing.

2015: Fashola Condemns Call For Christian Successor

Image
LAGOS—GOVERNOR Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, condemned the demand by some Christian religious groups in the state that a Christian should be his successor in 2015, saying, “do they really believe in God? It is only God that can insist.” The state chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, has recently called for a Christian to succeed the governor in 2015. Fashola, while declaring open an inter-faith conference in Lagos, with the theme: ‘Peace, Religious Harmony and Good Governance: Issues and Challenges’, argued that the insecurity in the nation would reduce drastically if everyone embraced religious harmony. According to him; “People have said that they want one particular governor and I have ask myself two questions – the people who said that they want one particular governor or said that there must be this particular governor, are they still conscious that it is an election where a choice has to be made? If there are two democrats, they shoul

Vice President Sambo Leads Secret Mission With Boko Haram

Image
After over one months of playing the ostrich, the Federal Government has begun talks with Boko Haram on how to free the abducted Chibok girls. The government is also asking the sect to hold its fire in the interest of both parties. But Boko Haram is also making demands. The dreaded group is saying that the military pulls the brakes on its action against its members. The insurgents have also kicked against arrest of their brethren and their detention without trial. According to sources, the “backdoor” talks are being coordinated by Vice-President Namadi Sambo through some clerics and elders in the North. Some of those involved in the talks have met the Vice-President up to five times. It was, however, stressed that the talks is through the back door because the Terrorism Act forbids payment of ransom to such groups. A source in the Presidency, who pleaded not to be named because he is not allowed to talk on the issue, told The Naion: “The government has been engaging Boko Haram thr

Rev King Is In Prison But See What Is Still Happening In His Church

Image
Seven years after the General Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly, Lagos, Rev Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, aka Reverend King, was convicted for murder and attempted murder, Folashade Adebayo attended a service in the church to see how things are going. Last Sunday was another anniversary celebration of the Christian Praying Assembly, Isolo, Lagos. But as at 9am when Punch correspondent got there, the imposing three black gates of the church were still shut. If not for a number of cars parked opposite the church and a middle-aged man who stood by one of the imposing gates, praying earnestly, one would have concluded that the church, founded by the convicted Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, also known as Rev. King, was on a recess. Rev. King was convicted and sentenced to death for murder and attempted murder in 2007 by a Lagos High Court. He was said to have doused six members of his church, including one Uzoh, with petrol for acts of fornication. Uzoh died on August 2, 2006. Last year,

Nigeria is in troubled, I pity our security agents who are made to take heat for politicians failure. The incident at the Port Harcourt refinery is no accident, according to the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, a deadly Niger Delta militant group, it is their handiwork and they are going to bomb more facilities. This one is economic Boko Haram. MEND has taken responsibility for Sunday's sabotage attack on pipelines of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) refinery in Okrika, Rivers State. In a statement released on Monday, MEND said: “This facility was infiltrated by a few of our fighters with the aid of our internal agents within the NNPC contrary to speculations that the sabotage was carried out by 'pipeline vandals and oil thieves', which is a very convenient phrase used in shielding the truth from the public.”   The deadly militant group added that if thorough investigations are carried out, government will discover that the bomb
