Revealed: How plot to kidnap NASS Clerk, abort Tuesday inauguration backfired

Image
Three different plots but with similar goal: to abort the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly on Tuesday, June 9 failed only when the first leg, and the most crucial one, could not fly. The first plot was to kidnap the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Alhaji Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa (OFR), from his residence in a highbrow district of Abuja in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. If that plot had succeeded, the next stage was a carefully composed text message that would be sent out to National Assembly members-elect of a purported meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the International Conference Centre (ICC). The text message was expected to draw out certain members-elect with a view to keeping them stranded at the ICC while some members would access the two chambers of the National Assembly, get the required numbers and then, conduct elections. The timing of the meeting was keenly debated but it was gathered that 9:00am was eventually agre

Buhari Slowed Down By Deliberate and Bureaucratic Nature - Aides

Image
As President Muhammadu Buhari headed out this morning to South Africa to attend an African Union Summit, several of his close aides and associates have attributed his slowness in producing a cabinet and special advisers to his deliberate bureaucratic style. Even so, some of the sources claimed that Mr. Buhari’s three previous predecessors did not select and announce their cabinet early in the life of their respective administrations. One of the associates, a governor of a northern state, said, “President Buhari is a systems man who tolerates a degree of bureaucracy apparently because of his military training.” He claimed that Mr. Buhari “assumed office with a lot of urgent issues to be attended to, including how to resolve the fuel crisis that crippled Nigeria. He also made strategic trips within our sub-region and to the G-7 Summit in Germany to address issues of the security and other threats facing our country.”  Another aide cited the fact that former President

APC members have returned to the trenches – Jimi Disu

Image
Jimi Disu National affairs commentator, Jimi Disi was on Classic FM for his usual Front Page News analysis, a review of newspaper stories and said the following on Wednesday, June 10 edition: On the emergence of Bukola Saraki as Senate President when some APC members including Senators-elect were at the International Conference Center for a purported meeting with President Buhari: “…It was said that Buhari didn’t call the meeting, then who did? These are the questions but I don’t want to delve much into it. How can an election be fixed for 10 am and on the same day a message flies in that a meeting with the President will hold at 9 am and there was no news about the rescheduling of the election? I think that Saraki read the whole thing well and outwitted them. I read a reaction that says APC rejects Saraki- Dogara’s victory. The ultimate leader of the party is the President. He has recognized Saraki and Dogara. So who are the APC that are rejecting their vict

Wole Soyinka-If Buhari wants to tackle Boko Haram by travelling the world, let him do...

Image
Noble Laurette Professor Wole Soyinka addressed the reason behind his support for Buhari in a new interview with  Punch ..Read excerpts   A lot of Nigerians still wonder why you chose to endorse the candidature of Muhammadu Buhari. Why did you do that? I was exercising my democratic right. So, how do you see Buhari as someone who is competent to rule this country? Let us put it this way, if this country had gone on the way it was going, the way things were shaping up; if this nation had continued for another two years, in fact, I will say, it would not have lasted two years. So the word, ‘change’ for me, was not a slogan. It is not a mere slogan. The nation needed new hands at the wheels of governance. That is quite clear. In essence, you are saying that the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan did not do well and could have plunged the nation into ruins? Mr. Journalist, do not try to put words in my mouth. Listen to and report exactl

I didn’t beg Ebube for forgiveness –Anita Joseph

Image
The nearly four-year rift between Nollywood actresses, Ebube Nwagbo and Anita Joseph, may have ended. It was a public secret that the two actresses were at war over Limpopo singer, Kcee, of the then KC Presh group. The young man didn’t eventually take any of them to the altar but of course, it didn’t stop the ‘beef’ between the two actresses to linger up until recently. Saturday Beats gathered that Anita actually made the first reconciliatory moves by begging Ebube and asking that the both to bury the hatchet and move on. However, in a telephone chat with Saturday Beats, Anita insisted she was never at ‘war’ with Ebube, claiming it was a figment of some people’s imagination. “I couldn’t have gone to ‘beg’ Ebube for any form of forgiveness. How? Where? The truth is that we don’t have any issue. She may not have been my close friend but she is not my enemy either. It was just people that brought up the issue of us having a fight; it never happened
