Kuala Lumpur -  Malaysian police on Wednesday detained 13 men and looking for other suspects following allegations that a 15-year old girl was raped by 38 men in an abandoned hut. Media accounts, quoting information from District Police Chief, Azham Otham, said 38 men were involved. Report says the assault took place in the northern state of Kelantan on May 20 when the girl met a girlfriend and was lured to an empty hut said to be a local drug haunt. The men took turns to rape her for hours, according to police report. Police also say they were investigating whether her 17-year old friend was also raped by the gang. The alleged attack, one of several brutal cases this week, underscored the violence to which women are being subjected to across Asia, had sparked outrage among women’s groups. The governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha has frowned upon the unwholesome attitude exhibited by family members of the late Supreme Court judge, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa over his interment process by turning into a family affair. The Governor disclosed this in a press statement signed by his senior special assistant, SSA, on media, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo. Mr Onwuemeodo revealed that the governor had given the Oputa family N20 million in preparation for the burial arrangements while waiting for a comprehensive burial programme that could befit the late juristic icon. Boko Haram militants have killed dozens of people in fresh attacks on villages in Borno State, the BBC reports. In one attack, gunmen reportedly fired on a crowd in a church compound. The latest attacks come as the Nigerian army denied reports that several generals have been found guilty of aiding Boko Haram in their insurgency. However, a military spokesman called the reports “falsehoods”. The BBC, quoting reports said the latest attacks happened on Tuesday. Residents in the village of Attagara, close to the Cameroonian border, said that armed men had ordered them into a church compound. They believed the men were from the Nigerian military. Eyewitnesses said the men then opened fire on the crowd.

There was confusion yesterday in Owerri, the Imo State capital, as suspected cult members killed over 15 people in broad daylight. The suspected cult members, who were armed, according to an eyewitness, trailed their victims to parts of the city where they were gunned down or killed with axe. The source said trouble began after a member of the Black Axe confraternity was allegedly killed by members of a rival cult group, the Buccaneers, who ambushed him in one of the popular hotels in Owerri. He added: “The cult group, which lost its member, traced his suspected killers to Ekeonunwa market where about five people were killed in the presence of traders, who abandoned their goods.” In another part of the city, the suspected cult members shot a man, who had just married. They cut him into pieces before they were driven away by armed policemen, who engaged them in a gun duel, which lasted for hours. The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday paraded a three-man gang that was allegedly sent to assassinate a Lagos businessman, Mr. Victor Adelakun, aka Ade Lexus. The suspected assassins were arrested by the Special Anti-robbery Squad team on Saturday, May 10, at a night club on Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos. A suit filed by Mrs Cecilia Ibru, the former Managing Director of defunct Oceanic Bank asking the court to help her retrieve all her properties seized by the federal government has been objected to by the The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). Mrs Ibru, who was convicted in October 2010 by a federal high court after a plea bargain, forfeited assets worth N191billion comprising 94 properties across the world, including the US, Dubai and Nigeria to AMCON. She was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment after her conviction. Mrs Ibru who sued for herself, Ibru Group and three others asked the court to stop the Attorney-General of the Federation and AMCOM from further implementation of the terms and conditions of the plea bargain before her conviction.

The lady who was gang-raped in January 2014 in the Bariga area of Lagos while heading to work around 5.30am, has shared her story.  She said she ran medical tests after the attack and found out she had been infected with the HIV virus.  She said the gang hang around Odunsi and Idumota Streets of Bariga, lurking around to prey on innocent girls.
