Wife of the police officer who murdered his two children and mother-in-law suspects he was pushed by spiritual forces to commit the gruesome crime. Lance Corporal Wilfred Amuzu killed his mother-in-law and his two young sons (three months and one-year-old +) with a rifle which he had booked for duty  on Monday  evening, July 25. The mother-in-law was said to be bathing her grandchild when the Lance Corporal shot her and the baby, killing them both, after which he shot the other child before committing suicide. Rapha Iddrisu, 29,  told journalists today at the Devtraco Police Station in Community 25 that there was no way her husband would have committed the act if he was in his right mind. The devastated woman said she noticed changes in her husband some months back. His utterances had changed and some things he said did not make sense. This is so painful, another young beautiful doctor lost her life in a fatal accident around Umuikaa while going to Umuahia from Aba. The bus containing 12 people including the driver had 11 people injured and 1 dead. The one person that dead is this beautiful damsel called Dr. Nneoma Uhuegbu. BREAKING NEWS: Okezie Ikpeazu Remains The Gov Of Abia State - Appeal Court

An appeal filed by the embattled Abia State Governor Okezie Ikepeazu, challenging a federal high court judgement that declared him unfit to hold office, has just been postponed by the court of appeal sitting today in Abuja. According to  TheCable News , the decision of the court to postpone the appeal of Ikepeazu to August 9 was due to the submission of Friday Iwunzo, the 5th respondent, that he had equal rights to be part of the suit filed by ‎Uche Ogah. The 5-man panel, which did not earlier recognise Iwunzo as part of the suit, said Ikpeazu remains governor till August 4, when Iwunzo’s suit will now be heard. Recall that Uche Sampsom Ogar, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, had contended that the governor evaded tax prior to his election, and as such was‎ not qualified to hold an elective office. Two ministerial nominees failed to recite the National anthem and pledge properly. The nominees, Ibrahim Isa from Niger state and Vivian Nwunaku Okeke from Anambra state mixed up the National Anthem and pledge when the chairman of the senate committee on Foreign Affairs, Monsurat Sunmonu asked them to recite it at the senate's screening exercise for the 47 ministerial nominees today July 26th. BREAKING NEWS: CBN increases interest rates to 14%

The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria on Tuesday announced a tightening of monetary policy stance by increasing the monetary policy rate by 200 basis points from 12 per cent to 14 per cent. It, however, left the Cash Reserve Ratio and the Liquidity Ratio unchanged at 22.5 per cent and 30 per cent respectively. The CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, who announced the decision of the committee after a two-day meeting said five out of the eight members that attended the meeting voted in favor of monetary tightening. The remaining three members, according to him, voted to hold the rate at 12 per cent. The Monetary Policy Rate is the anchor rate at which the CBN, in performing its role as lender of last resort, lends to Deposit Money Banks to boost the level of liquidity in the banking system. Malawi Govt arrests HIV positive Malawian man paid $4 to $7 to have unprotected sex with underaged girls

BBC recently shared a special report featuring a middle aged HIV positive Malawian man, Eric Avina, whose responsibility is to conduct "sexual cleansing" for underaged and also matured women in Nsanje district in southern Malawi. Avina in his community is referred to as Hyena, a traditional title given to a man hired by communities in several remote parts of southern Malawi to provide what's called sexual "cleansing". Teenage girls, after their first menstruation, are made to have sex over a three-day period with Avina to mark their passage from childhood to womanhood.  Alvina has now been arrested.  A government spokesman told BBC Africa that Aniva was arrested on Malawi President, Peter Mutharika's orders and would be prosecuted for violating children's rights. The spokesman also revealed that the president was disturbed by the revelations made in the story and has vowed to crackdown on the cultural practice.

Former deputy speaker House of Reps, Chibudom Nwuche, detained over N5.6bn alleged fraud

Former Speaker in the House of Representatives, Chibudum Nwuche, was yesterday detained by the EFCC for allegedly being involved in a N5.6 billion amnesty contract scam. Uwuche, who served as deputy speaker from 1999 to 2003, is alleged to have collected three contracts totaling N5.6 billion from the office of the former Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Kingsley Kuku who served during Jonathan's administration. EFCC sources say Nwuche, through his company, Foundation for Youth Development, had collected the money in the guise of sending some of the Niger Delta Militants to Malaysia for training which he allegedly never did. The former deputy speaker had gone to the antigraft agency's head office to honor their invitation but was not released after much questioning. He will be further questioned today July 26th.

Landlord The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a landlord, Gbade Metibemu, for allegedly stabbing his tenant of four months, Bright Abraham, to death on Apollo Street in the Makoko area of the state.  PUNCH Metro  learnt that Metibemu attacked the 35-year-old Abia State indigene with a knife for refusing to vacate his plank apartment after a week-long disagreement. Our correspondent was told that the suspect had warned the victim to stop soiling the slum with the faeces of his baby. When the warning did not yield any result, the suspect was reported to have threatened to kill Abraham. Last Thursday, around 10pm, the father of four was preparing to sleep when an argument ensued between him and the landlord which degenerated into a fight. Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai yesterday warned that the Army will use force if the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) and other militant groups reject dialogue with the Federal Government. Shocking Revelation: Documents Trace Whereabouts of 'Missing $7.8bn' NLNG Dividends (2005-2013)

TheCable has seen documents indicating the trail of the  “missing”  dividends paid by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) to the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) between 2005 and 2013. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the senate are currently investigating the findings of the 2013 audit report of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) which raised the issue. NEITI had said the NNPC, which holds 49% equity in NLNG on behalf of the government, did not remit a total of $12.9bn to the federation account during the period. In its reaction, the NNPC said a part of the dividends was reinvested on behalf of the federal government and the rest is now in the treasury single account (TSA). However, TheCable has seen letters exchanged by former President Goodluck Jonathan and Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former minister of petroleum resources on $7.85 billion out of the dividends.
