Nigerian Army dismisses 203 soldiers after secret night trial

Image
The Nigerian Army has dismissed 203 soldiers after a secret court martial held in the dead of the night, for allegedly disobeying a direct order from their commanding officer, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt. One of the sacked soldiers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the soldiers were dismissed for asking for support equipment, following the army’s plan to convey them in a tipper for an operation in Bama and Gwoza, two strongholds of Boko Haram insurgents. The soldier, who is originally of the 19th Battalion in Okitipupa in Ondo State, but attached to the 7th division in Maiduguri, said the army detained them for over 90 days before dismissing them after a midnight trial. He said they are owed up to five months in unpaid salaries. Narrating the event that led to their dismissal, the soldier said his unit reconvened in Maiduguri last August, after they were dislodged by the insurgents in Damboa in an operation where their commanding officer and several other soldi

Selena Gomez slammed for displaying her Ankles during visit to Abu Dhabi mosque

Image
Selena Gomez has sparked anger after posting pictures of herself flunting her ankle inside Abu Dhabi's Grand Mosque on her Instragram account. A second picture, showing Gomez and fellow musicians Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Cody Simpson and Shay Mitchell smiling and striking poses has also been lambasted. Mosque visiting rules strictly ban all 'intimate behaviour' including holding hands and kissing, and states that all skirts must be ankle-length. Commenting on the picture, Alaa Almitwally said: 'Disrecpectful! It's a religion place not a place to have fun in, so disappointed.' Meanwhile another user, Ayisha Elturk, said: 'If their intent was to learn about Islam they wouldn't be posing like they were standing outside and amusement park.I like Selena Gomez but to have her do something like this makes me no longer a fan.' She has since deleted the images

'Kidnapped Italian women in Syria' appear in video

Image
Two women identifying themselves as Italian aid workers kidnapped in Syria have appeared in a video urging their government to seek their release. The video, filmed in mid-December, appeared online Wednesday night and purportedly shows Vanessa Marzullo and Greta Ramelli, who were abducted by gunmen in northern Aleppo province in August. The women, both in their twenties, are shown wearing black dresses and headscarves, seated before a blank wall. One woman holds a piece of paper with the date December 17, though the video appeared to have been posted online on December 31. The other, apparently reading from a script out of shot, urges the Italian government to bring them home before Christmas. The 23-second video includes no details of which group is holding the women and no one else appears in the footage. The posting on YouTube is titled "Al-Nusra Front detains two Italian employees because of their government's participation in the coali

Image
A trainee flight attendant on board doomed AirAsia flight QZ8501 left a touching love letter from the sky for her boyfriend in one of her last Instagram posts. ‘I love you from 38,000 ft,’ 22-year-old Khairunisa Haidar Fauzi wrote on a napkin to her partner Divo just two weeks ago. Ms Khairunisa has been tentatively identified as one of the seven bodies so far retrieved from the Java Sea after the aircraft crashed on Sunday, 42 minutes after taking off from Surabaya in Indonesia with 162 people on board. Along with photos of her travels, family and friends, Ms Khairunisa often shared messages to her boyfriend including his and her name written in sand on Instagram. The body of the former law student, who was following her dreams of becoming a stewardess after joining AirAsia last year, was identified because her name tag was reportedly still attached to her uniform. Authorities have confirmed the bodies of four males and three females – including a flight att

Image
Kim Kardashian 's number one beauty secret was revealed via a photo shared on her Instagram account on Monday, Dec. 29. If you guessed the trick is an expensive serum, beauty mask, or lots of sleep, sorry to say, you're wrong.  In a black and white photo with family friend Shamari Maurice, the  Keeping Up With the Kardashians  star, 34, revealed that maintaining her famous poker face is what keeps her looking so beautiful.  "See I do smile… even laugh on occasion,"  North West 's mom  spilled  in the gleeful picture's caption. After receiving criticism for the editing job, Kardashian explained why was Nori was left out of the picture. “Her eyes were closed and I was feeling my look! Can I live?!?!”
