Hate speech: Falana reveals why Military cannot arrest offenders

S enior Advocate of Nigeria and human right lawyer, Femi Falana, has said the plan by the military to arrest hate speech offenders in the country in unlawful. According to Falana, the Police had the lawful right to carry out such arrest and not the military. Backing up his claims he said: “For the avoidance of doubt, section 4 of the Police Act has empowered the Nigeria Police Force to arrest and prosecute criminal suspects in the country. “However, section 47 (1) of the CyberCrimes (prohibition, prevention etc) Act provides that law enforcement agencies shall have power to prosecute offences under this act while section 58 thereof defines law enforcement agencies to include ‘any agency for the time being responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the provisions of this act.’ “As the Nigerian Army is not one of the law enforcement agencies empowered by the Act and other penal laws, it should not be permitted to enforce any of the laws against hate spe

W ife of the Vice President of Nigeria, Pastor Dolapo Osinbajo, has recounted how she spent about 10 years with street urchins under several notorious Lagos bridges in a bid to reshape their lives. The VP’s wife spoke at a “Teens Career Conference” put together by The Everlasting Arms Parish TEAP of the Redeemed Christian Church of God RCCG, Garki, Abuja. Buhari receives briefing on Nigeria’s economy from CBN Governor, Others

P resident Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday received briefings on the state of Nigeria’s economy from the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele. The briefing which took place at the Presidential Villa, Abuja saw the President expressing satisfaction with the current state of the economy. A statement sent to DAILY POST by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina said issues on monetary policy strategies and their economic impact were among others discussed during the briefing. BREAKING NEWS: Inflation rate drops to 16.05% for sixth consecutive time

T he National Bureau of Statistics has released the Consumer Price Index which measures inflation, with the index dropping marginally from 16.10 per cent in June to 16.05 per cent in the month of July. The Bureau in the report on Monday, said this is the sixth consecutive time that the index would be dropping since January this year. It reads in part,” The inflation report for July 2017 reveals that headline inflation has again reduced to 16.05 per cent (year-on-year) in July 2017, compared to 16.10 percent in June 2016. “This makes it the sixth consecutive decline in the rate of headline year on year inflation since January 2017. “On a month-on-month basis, the headline index increased by 1.21 per cent in July, 2017, 0.37 per cent points lower from the rate of 1.58 per cent recorded in June.” Source: DailyPostng

Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu dares Buhari, says “anyone who tries to arrest me will die”

T he Leader of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has warned that anyone who tries to arrest him will die. Kanu stated this in reaction to the call of the federal government, that his bail should be revoked. He was granted bail on April 25, but the IPOB head has flouted all the bail conditions, prompting the calls for his arrest. Speaking on Sunday at Boys Technical College (BTC) in Aba, Abia state, Kanu paid tribute to those reportedly killed at National High School by security agencies. “Where we are, is Biafra Land. Aba is the spiritual capital of Biafra land. We started in Aba in 2015 at CKC (Christ the King Catholic Cathedral),” Kanu said. “That day, heaven authenticated our move that IPOB will restore Biafra and that’s what we’ve come to do. We died in Aba; at National High School. “They shot and killed us in other places in Biafra land when they were protesting for my release. As our people rest in the grave, we’ll never rest unt
