The All Progressives Congress has alleged a plot by the Peoples Democratic Party and the President Goodluck Jonathan administration to decapitate the opposition and gain “undue advantage” ahead of the coming elections. The APC said its leader, former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, and others suspected to be financiers of the party, had been marked for arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on trumped up charges. Marines could play an important role in containing — if not defeating — Boko Haram, according to a new study published just days after the radical organization announced its allegiance to the Islamic State group. The study was commissioned by U.S. Naval Forces Africa, and was conducted by the CNA Corporation. It proposes ways to defeat Boko Haram within the confines of what its authors describe as a complicated relationship between Washington and Nigeria. Boko Haram has carried out a number of atrocities across Nigeria, including kidnapping hundreds of school-aged girls and forcing them into marriage. Its recent allegiance to the Islamic State group has troubled world leaders. The strategy proposed by CNA to combat the group includes the short-term goal of working with Nigeria's neighbors to contain Boko Haram, all the while advocating for a "whole of governance" or counter insurgency approach to eventually dismantle it. According to a report by  Reuters , soldiers from Niger and Chad who liberated the town of Damasak in Borno from Boko Haram militants discovered the bodies of at least 70 people, many with their throats slit, scattered under a bridge.  In what appeared to be an execution site for the Islamist group, the bodies were strewn beneath the concrete bridge on one of the main roads leading out of the town. At least one was decapitated. The bodies were partially mummified by the dry desert air, while grass has began to grow around the corpses, suggesting that the killings had taken place some time ago. Damasak was seized by the Islamist group in November but recaptured by troops from Niger and Chad on Saturday as part of a multinational effort to wipe out the militants. President Goodluck Jonathan today said he is not desperate to win next week’s presidential election notwithstanding his readiness and willingness to continue to serve as the President of Nigeria. Jonathan made this disclosure at the public launch of a book, “The People’s Choice: The story of President Goodluck Jonathan”, written by Rev. Fr. Charles Imokhai, where over N170 million was raised, at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The four-part book chronicles the life of the President including his educational background, political career and family among others. According to reports coming from Port Harcourt, 4 people were shot dead late last night by suspected cultists at Okrika water side town axis in Port Harcourt. Two others were also hit by stray bullets and rushed to the hospital.  *warning - graphic photo*
