A former United States Ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, has warned that Boko Haram terrorists will likely regroup, becoming more radical, violent and may attack Kano and Lagos states. The former diplomat noted that the division in the terrorist group might not degrade its ability to launch deadly attacks. Campbell said,  “It should be anticipated that attacks on government and Western facilities will continue but not necessarily centred in the North-East. Instead, the two factions are likely to carry out attacks further afield, in Kano, possibly Lagos, and almost certainly in Cameroon and Niger. There may well be greater cooperation with the various criminal networks that are active across the Sahel. “The paradox is that a splintered Boko Haram with rival leaders may pose less of a threat to the Nigerian state in the short term but a greater one to the broader region and to Western individuals and interests. Up to now, (Abubakar) Shekau’s ties to...

The pastor identified as Prophet Bismarck Anokye aka ‘Bonsam Abodam’ was stripped n*ked in public. The 39 year old Pastor, a resident of Dunkwa Offin in the Central Region of Ghana, is very popular in the area. According to Adom News, the pastor suffered probably the worst disgrace of his life when he was stripped naked by an alcohol (Akpeteshie) seller. The woman stripped the prophet for buying several drinks without paying but promising to pay later. After he refused to pay, she was forced to attack him. Bystanders were thrown into a state of utter shock when they got to know that the pastor owed the beer bar operator a debt of GHC80.00 being the cost of akpeteshie drink and cigarettes he had consumed. Adom News reports that the ‘man of God’ who usually preaches at various big markets in the region and sometimes in the Western Region as well, is known for admonishing people to turn away from their bad deeds and live righteous and exemplary lives...

Samson Siasia Below are excerpts from the explosive chat; Welcome from Rio Olympics. How does it feel? It feels good because the end justifies the means. We wanted the gold but we are still happy with the bronze because it made Nigerians happy.  The Minister of Sports accused you of child trafficking for taking the team to Atlanta without his knowledge or consent? How can I take a national team out of the country without the knowledge of the NFF and the Sports Ministry? I really don’t know were that was coming from. We had the plan to travel from Atlanta to Brazil on the 29th of July. But the agent who was handling that did not get us the chartered flight or pay for our tickets, but nothing actually happened and that was when I, on my own, decided to contact an agent, Greg. But the guy said he would not do anything until he saw that the money was paid into his account. After three days, the guy said he was no longer interested and even told other ...

The Nigerian Army says at least five suspected members of the Niger Delta militants group were killed in Rivers State and a large cache of arms recovered by troops involved in “Exercise Crocodile Smile”, which commenced on Saturday. Army spokesman, Sani Usman, said at least 23 of the armed militants were seriously injured in a shootout between the troops and the militants in their hideout in the creeks. Various calibres of arms, including a speed boat, were also recovered during the exercise, he said. “The 133 Special Forces Battalion of Nigerian Army troops have carried out a precursor operation to Exercise CROCODILE SMILE aimed at getting rid of all forms of criminal activities in the Niger Delta geo-political region of Nigeria. “In the course of the operation, five militants that attacked the troops were killed in action, while numerous others were injured and 23 suspects were arrested,” Mr. Usman, a colonel, said.. The 56th Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association came to an end August 26, in Port Harcourt with the bar making pronouncements on major issues of national importance. One of the new commitments as articulated by the new President of the Association, Mr. Abubakar Mahmoud, SAN, is to reinvent the association by reclaiming its moral high ground through a campaign for ethical rectitude by members of the bar. “The NBA under my watch will fight judicial corruption. We shall make the legal profession unattractive for corrupt lawyers,” he said. This is reassuring considering the evidence that senior members of the Bar have become complicit in cases of corruption and money laundering, leading to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arraigning two members of the inner bar for acts of corruption. A Bar populated or directed by people perceived to be rogues and vultures cannot play the role of priests in the temple of justice. The EFCC ...
