Abia commissioner dies in hospital after he was shot by gunmen
The Abia State Commissioner for Agriculture , Dr. Ken Nwosu, who was shot last week Wednesday by some gunmen, is dead.(READ IT HERE)
Announcing the death on Tuesday in Umuahia, the Commissioner for Information, Eze Chikamnayo, said the commissioner died on Monday night at the Abia State Specialist Hospital where he was hospitalised after the attack.
He said the government made spirited efforts to save his life, adding that arrangements had been perfected to fly him abroad, but doctors said he had to be put on stable condition first.
He said it was a sad moment for the state government and the entire people of Abia State “because we have lost a colossus; the best hand in agriculture.”
Chikamnayo said security agents had been directed to fish out the attackers, vowing that they must be made to face the music.
The late commissioner, who hailed from Amizi in Olokoro community, Umuahia South Local Government Area, was appointed Commissioner in September 2013.
A family source who pleaded for anonymity told our correspondent that the wife of the deceased was “too devastated” by the tragic exit of her husband.
PUNCH Metro had reported that the commissioner was shot around Umuajata/ Amakamma Road by Stella Inter-Communication, at the outskirts of Umuahia capital city.
Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State, Geoffrey Ogbonna, had told PUNCH Metro that the commissioner was driving home around 8.05pm when the incident occurred .
The commissioner was reportedly overtaken by a group of gunmen in a Toyota Camry who opened fire on him on the lonely road.
The late commissioner was reputed for rapid transformations and reforms in the agriculture ministry.
