More Chibok Parents Might Die, Health Worker Says

According to reports, 7 parents of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls have died and the health condition of some of the living ones show that they might also be well on the way.

Leadership spoke to a senior official of the Borno State Ministry of Health who said that most of the parents are currently suffering from post-trauma stress disorder (PTSD) and high blood pressure.
The source, who chose to remain anonymous, reportedly said that he had been working closely with most of the parents since the abduction of their daughters as the state government had provided the parents with the opportunity to receive medical and psycho-social counseling.
He added:
“Presently we can officially say that at least seven of the parents of the girls, mostly the fathers, have died of trauma, while we have over ten confirmed cases of PTSD and several others who are suffering from trauma-induced hypertension”,
“We have tried as much as possible to shield the news about Boko Haram insurgents’ attack from those with serious psychological ailment due to the absence of their daughters so that their conditions that we are managing would not worsen, but all to no avail.
In fact, one of the women with the worst case of PTSD had severally attempted to commit suicide but we had to prevent her”
The medic also reportedly told Leadership that there are fears that more of the parents might die of grief.

Over 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped from Chibok in Borno by Boko Haram on April 14, 2014 and most of them are still in captivity.
