STELLA ODUAH SPEAKS: Anambra’s futures hinge on agriculture – Stella Oduah
Former Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah, said on Saturday that the economic future of Anambra lay on the development of the state’s agriculture and agro-allied business.
Oduah said this in Onitsha while addressing members of stakeholders of Anambra North Senatorial zone.
She identified robust entrepreneurship as well as investments in agriculture and agro-allied as the surest ways to get communities in Anambra out of the cycle of poverty.
“Our people have innate skills in agriculture through crop farming, fishery, agro-allied business and education.
“But it is regrettable that those skills and potential remain largely untapped; and we need people, policies and programmes to help us tap these potential,” she said.
Oduah noted that the entire Anambra North Senatorial zone should have farm settlements and storage/collection centres with independent power plants to provide energy to the storage centres.
She commended the Federal Government for approving cargo terminals in airports and export processing zones across the country.
She noted that the facilities would make it easier for those in agriculture and agro-allied business to get their farm produce to international market.
“With the approval of cargo terminals in various airports across the country, including Asaba and Owerri, the zone will begin the export of perishable agricultural goods to different parts of the world,” she said.
NAN reports that Anambra North Senatorial zone comprises Anambra East, Anambra West, Ayamelum, Ogbaru, Onitsha North, Onitsha South and Oyi local government areas.
