Davido and Wizkid take battle outside Nigeria’s shores. - NET

Pop stars, Ayodeji Balogun ‘Wizkid’ and David Adeleke ‘Davido’ are no doubt about the busiest artistes in the country as well as the entire African continent at the moment.

Both stars, who have been at loggerheads for months now as their battle began with a series of rants on social media and continued with a war of worlds in separate interviews as they each try to explain his side of the story.

Regardless of the beef, both artistes are still making waves within and outside the country, headlining sold-out shows and concerts and have both been pitched against each other to battle for the same award in the same categories of two different award shows before the year runs out.

They have both been nominated for the Artiste of the Year category at this year’s edition of Headies scheduled to hold later this year, on December 14, 2014 to be precise. Wizkid and Davido, who have since become rivals striving to outdo each other at every opportunity, will have to battle for the coveted Artiste of the Year prize alongside other pop stars like Kcee, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Phyno and Flavour nominated along with them.

Aside the Headies, Wizkid and Davido would have another go at each other at the prestigious MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) award in the same Artiste of the Year category. The rivals will battle for the ‘Best African Act’ category alongside Nigerian acts Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade and Dr Sid while others nominated for the category from other African countries include Fuse ODG, DJ Clock, Afrikan Boy, Mafikizolo and Mista Silva for the award ceremony planned to hold at the SSE Arena at the famous Wembley in London on Wednesday, October 22, 2014.

While it is instructive that the month of October is huge for the two stars, as the two award ceremonies for which they were nominated are just days apart before the Headies, initially scheduled to hold on October 25, was moved to December and it remains to be seen if Davido would continue his domination of awards for the year of if Wizkid, who recently released his sophomore album titled Ayo, would halt his advancement to glory this time.

This is the first time the two stars would be placed in the same corner to battle for an award in the same category this year as Wizkid has been largely missing from the award podiums as far as 2014 is concerned and Davido has won all the available awards in 2014.

Away from their award nominations, it is also important to state the huge success both stars have recorded outside the shores of the country. Both stars have headlined sold-out concerts in several parts of the world in the year 2014 and they do not seem to be stopping anytime soon.

For Davido, he just finished a string of concerts which saw him make concert stops in Germany, London, Paris and he’s still scheduled to perform at more locations before the year runs out.

According to a recent post on his Twitter page, his next locations include LONDON-LAGOS-WARRI-SOUTH AFRICA-NAMIBIA and TANZANIA, although he failed to make it to Warri, Delta State where he would have had to confront his rival, Wizkid at one point or the other. The show, which was headlined by two American acts, Ja Rule and Ashanti, also had a long list of Nigerian music stars who performed at the massive concert. He was however in South Africa for the opening event of BB Hotshots which he headlined along with Tanzania’s Diamond and a host of others.

As for Wizkid, he also just rounded up a tour of the United Kingdom where he performed in Manchester, London and other cities and he had also recently revealed his next locations to include Warri, Ghana, Nairobi, Uganda and South Africa.

In a manner that clearly shows the two are mindful of the rivalry between them and with none of them ready to yield the ground of dominance for the other, their locations were revealed on Twitter around the same time, with only minutes between both their posts recently.
