BOKO HARAMS TACTICS: The Propaganda War By Mike Ikem Umealo
As i was going through my facebook, i stumbled on this write up by a friend of mine on facebook, after reading it, i thought it wise to share this on my blog because i believe that there is truth in what he wrote. See below and read it for yourself.
We are made to believe that some elitist "untouchables" are funding Boko Haram. This diverts the attention of government from looking into how they source for funding and how they operate.
Don't look at sponsors of Boko haram as very wealthy and VIP individuals. Of course, there are those people amongst the elite who are sympathisers of Boko Haram, and I believe that's where it stops.
Boko Haram is largely self sustaining. Insurgents are not paid- they are Jihadist, volunteers and With as little as N3,780, a powerful bomb can be put together.
You can even buy the materials online. They get weapons by attacking military bases, police barracks and laying of ambushes against security forces.
Boko Haram also collects levies from those who live in the areas they control and when their store houses are empty, they sack towns and villages.
So what could the billionaires suspected of funding them actually doing for them?
And when they need new recruits, especially the diehards, this is what they do best.
"Boko Haram insurgents will disguise themselves as soldiers, go into a village, attack families, slaughter the older men and carry the girls away, killing anyone who resists them, but subtly allowing the young men to escape. What then is there plan?
This is what happens, the young men whose family members have been slaughtered, apparently believing that the killings were carried out by the military, would willingly and voluntarily join the insurgency believing that the Military guys are the enemy, and that the Christian Commander In Chief has sent his soldiers to attack Muslims. Their only place of comfort, escape and safety becomes the nearest Boko Haram camp.
By joining Boko Haram, they feel protected and with the weapons available to them, they want to extract maximum vengeance against the military and against the people."
This is one area state intelligence gathering can begin to counter terrorism by being a step ahead of Boko Haram in recruiting the able bodies young men, and train them to protect themselves. And when Boko Haram come to them disguised as soldiers, they might recognise that the disguised soldiers are fake and attack them as such. If there are no recruits and volunteers, Boko Haram could die a natural death. (MIU, Nov. 2014).
