80 insurgents, two soldiers killed in Borno attack
At least, 80 Boko Haram insurgents were killed, while 2 soldiers lost their lives when some Boko Haram insurgents laid ambushed on the military personnel on their way to Damboa, the headquarters of Damboa local government area of Borno state.
DAILY POST correspondent in the state reports that the military personnel were on their way to Damboa to give security protection to the staff of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) who were in Daboa to repair some destroyed electric cable along Maiduguri-Damboa road destroyed by the insurgents.
A security source who does not want his name in print told our correspondent that as they were moving towards Damboa, one Boko Haram terrorist suddenly appeared on the road with a female passenger and a rifle where they immediately cleared him, and unknown to them, many of them were hidden by the road side.
“unknown to us, they were large in number waiting to ambush us, as we approached the insurgents, they shot a Rocket propelled Grenade (RPG) on one of our vehicles, killing two of our men,” the sourced stated.
He said “we immediately responded and engaged them in a gun battle, and when they realized that we had over powered them, they started running and we pursued them and killed all of them.”
“ I believe the attacks were coordinated ones, as it was just some minutes after they attempted to attack Damboa, that this one happened. May be, they stationed these insurgents in order to ambush and stop any reinforcement from Maiduguri,” he explained.
He called on the Federal Government and the military authorities to give them the go ahead to clear the Alagarno village and its environs, as they have made the village the military based of the insurgents and their operational headquarters.
It could be recalled that this attack was coming at the time Damboa town was attacked where over 110 insurgents were killed.
