Jailbreak: Escapees Sighted In Ekiti Gov House- APC
The Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has claimed that the latest report of the sighting of four of the escaped prisoners in the Government House confirmed Governor Ayodele Fayose’s complicity in the Monday jail break in Ado-Ekiti.
The party who made the accusation based on the conflicting reports from the governor and his media aide, Lere Olayinka, alleged that the prisoners live in the government house.
APC alleged that the jailbreak was a plan to free criminals friendly with the government in order to unleash them on the opponents as suspicion of alleged killer squad in the state grew.
The party explained that while the governor accused the prison officials of complicity, his media aide accused APC of masterminding the jailbreak to free Niyi Adedipe, who was incarcerated for the alleged murder of drivers’ union boss, Omolafe Aderiye.
“If the jailbreak was an attempt by APC to free Adedipe, why did Adedipe report himself to the police and subsequently surrendered himself to the prisons authorities without being declared wanted? If the jailbreak is to kill Niyi Adedipe, as alleged by Lere Olayinka, Why was he not killed? We are not surprised that the local content of this crime ring is being re-activated by releasing them from jail for maximum results and we are calling the attention of Nigerians and lovers of peace and security around the world that the merchants of death are back in Ekiti State to terrorise the people of Ekiti State. We can now see why security vote for security agents to fight crimes has been reduced while personal security vote for the governor has doubled. We urge the security agents to comb the Presidential lodge of the Government House to re-arrest the escapees quartered there,” APC said.
Meanwhile, in a reaction to APC’s accusation, governor Fayose’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, in a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday debunked the allegation.
He urged the people of Ekiti state to narrow their search on security lapses to members of the APC.
“Nobody will take APC serious over the latest allegations. They are known for fabricating lies. They are doing this to save face. Their allegations that four of the escapees are in the Government House is so funny to us. The allegation is the opposite of what is on ground, some of the escapees are in the APC custody. The APC knows where the criminals are, they want to divert attention of the public from their criminal tendencies. The people of Ekiti State know that the APC is behind the attack on the prison. The APC collaborated with some people inside the prison whom they have already compromised. What the Governor and one of his aide, Mr Lere Olayinka said are the same. The Governor only shed more light on how the APC connived with some people inside the prison to carry out the attack,” he said.
It would be recalled that an explosion rocked the Federal Prison in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, in the morning of December 1, 2014.
