Presidential Primary: APC Aspirants Scramble For Votes

Latest reports from the venue of the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential primaries holding at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos indicate that the five APC aspirants contesting for the party’s ticket were on Tuesday engaged in a last minute scramble for the votes of the 8,000 delegates that would determine who would square up against President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election.

The aspirants will slug it out at the party’s national convention slated to commence today, Wednesday, 10 December, 2014.

The contenders for APC’s presidential ticket are former military Head of State, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari; former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso; Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha; and Founder of Leadership Newspapers, Sam Nda-Isaiah.

According to Thisday report, the aspirants were said to be offering delegates money, airline tickets to and from Lagos, as well as promises of luxury hotel accommodation in exchange for their votes.

It was disclosed that the aspirants dispatched their campaign managers to scout for votes among the delegates.

“The agents are wooing delegates with juicy offers including cash gifts ranging from N50,000 to N100,000 each. Some have offered to pay air transport fares while a particular aspirant has offered to place fully air conditioned luxury buses at strategic locations to ferry delegates to Lagos,” a source revealed.

It was learnt that delegates from non-APC controlled states are getting more attention, as most of them are being treated like beautiful brides that could easily be swayed with inducements.

Herdsman kills police officer in Kebbi

A police officer, Danladi, in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State has been killed by a herdsman identified as Babuga Kuaara. According to the Kebbi State Police Command, the slain officer was attached to the Kaoje Police division in the local government area. A farmer had reported Kuaara to the Police after cows belonging to the herdsman allegedly destroyed his farm. A witness who pleaded anonymity told journalists that the late officer was asked to arrest the herder who was still wandering with his cattle within the area, but he got killed in the process. “The police officer who came with his riffle, arrested the suspect, but as he was taking him to the waiting patrol vehicle, the herder drew his machete and stabbed the officer on his neck,” the witness said. “We saw the officer groaning in pains and bleeding but he died before we could apply first aid.
