Court nullifies movement restriction during Lagos monthly sanitation

Justice Mohammed Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has nullified the restriction of movement of Lagos state residents during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise. Delivering his judgement in a suit filed by some aggrieved residents, Justice Mohammed described as unlawful the restrictions of residents, adding that it was a violation of the citizens’ right to personal liberty and freedom of movement protected by sections 35 and 41 of the Constitution.

He voided the power of the Lagos State Government and its agent to arrest any citizen found moving between 7am & 10am during the monthly sanitation which holds every last Saturday of every month.
