Tompolo Denies N1.5bn Monthly Payment Claim

Ex-Niger Delta warlord, Tompolo, has denied claims made by Dr. Ahmed Ramalan that he was paid the sum of N1.5 billion monthly by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), to protect Nigeria’s maritime zones.


Dr Ramalan who was the former chairman of NIMASA had in a report in the Leadership newspaper of Wednesday June 3, 2015, accused Tompolo of not doing enough to stop oil theft in Nigeria’s maritime areas despite the huge sums of money paid to the ex-militant leader.

Tompolo has however described these claims by Dr Ramalan as wild, unsubstantiated allegations born out of malice.

Speaking through Comrade Paul Bebenimibo, his spokes person, he accused Dr Ramalan of merely seeking undue attention.

He added that the allegations leveled against him was a needlessly effort to rubbish his name and fuel a dispute between him and the new government of President Muhammadu Buhari that is barely one week in office.


“I make bold to say Ramalan who claims to be the pioneer chairman of NIMASA is not just economical with the truth but his outburst is an exhibition of ignorance and mischief which should be ignored by all,” Tompolo said.

He called on President Mohammadu Buhari to ignore the allegations against him, alleging that Ramalan was trying hard to gain relevance for selfish reasons.

Nigerian water ways are described as one of the porous in the world, this has created an enabling environment for oil theft and piracy in the region.
