Rainfall Robbers Arrested by The Police

Officers of the Gwarinpa Police Division have arrested suspected armed robbers who specialize in robbing residents during rainfalls and bounding their victims with ropes.

A 26-year-old furniture maker suspected to be the gang leader was arrested with locally made pistol and pump action rifle penultimate Thursday.

A police source told City News that the man who owns a furniture shop in Dei-Dei was the leader of a five-man gang terrorizing Gwarinpa residents.

It was gathered that the gang operates during heavy rainfall, and when they invade a compound, they tie up their victims with ropes, tape their mouths and force them to surrender their valuables.

“We received distress calls from residents residing in 21 and 14 Roads, then we swooped into action and with the help of vigilante group, arrested one of them - a known mason, as he tried to escape. He was arrested with an AK47 gun,” the police source said.

He said during interrogation, he mentioned the popular Dei-Dei carpenter and assisted the police to arrest the carpenter.

When the Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Afolabi Wilfred, was contacted, he confirmed the story and said the four armed robbers were arrested with the help of vigilante group in the area.

The police chief described the gang as very vicious and heartless.
“His nickname is kilowatts and so far they have invaded 22 houses in Gwarinpa. The gang is the brain behind all the house invasions in Gwarinpa; they always study the house of interest during the day and operate under heavy downpour at night. They are the same gang breaking into homes in Kado Bimko,” he said.

He said the suspects would be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
