Senate proceedings for Wednesday 12th July 2016. ‪#‎TodayInPlenary‬

EXECUTIVE SESSION
Today's plenary was introduced with a closed door session that lasted for an hour where the Senators deliberated on issues relating to the smooth running of the Senate and the National Assembly in general.
Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki presided over plenary
Senator Usman Bayero Nafada moved for the adoption of votes and proceedings of Thursday 23rdJune 2016 and Senator Sani Danladi seconded.
PETITION
Senator Mao raised a petition from a member of his constituency over unlawful termination of appointment, the motion was refered to committee on Ethics Privileges and Public Petitions to report back in two weeks.
POINTS OF ORDER
Senator Tijani Yahaya coming from order 42 (1) raised a motion on the demise of the Marafa of Sokoto Alhaji Umaru Aliyu Shinkafi on the 6th of July. Senator Adamu Aliero seconded the motion and it was addressed.
Senator David Umaru raised a point of order from order 53 regarding the decision of the Senate on 23rd of June to invite the Atorney general of the federation, AGF 

He urged the senate to give him more time to appear before the senate.

Senator Matthew Urhoghide from order 14 and 15 called the attention of the Senate to a publication on 28th of June in daily trust newspaper where the Secretary General of the federation, SGF David Babachir Lawal stated that constituency projects of lawmakers will not be executed. He frankly stated that this undermines the law that binds the provisions of the 2016 budget and his representation and called for the SGF to be summoned.
Senators Ibn N'Allah, Biodun Olujimi, Adamu Aliero and Danjuma Goje Senate Committee Chiarman on Appropriation all spoke in support of the motion.
Senate President puts the question and the lawmakers echoed in support it was reffered to committees on Ethics Privileges and Public Petitions, Appropriations Finance and budget..
The SGF will appear before the committes to clarify his statements .

1. Federal Entrepreneurship Centres (Establishment Etc) Bill 2016 SB. 133 by Senator Mao Ohabunwa (Abia North).
2. Medical and Dental Practitioners Act CAP M8 LFN 2004 (Amendment) Bill 2016 SB.135 by Senator Mao Ohabunwa.
3. Corrupt Practice and other Related Offences Act CAP C31 LFN 2004 (Amendment) Bill 2016 SB. 145 by Senator Andy Uba (Anambra South).
4. Cassava Flour (Mandatory Inclusion in Flour Production) Bill 2016 SB. 152 by Senator Rose Oko (Cross River North).
5. Environmental Impact Assessment Act CAP E12 LFN 2004 (Amendment) Bill 2016 SB. 168 by Senator Clifford Ordia (Edo Central).
MOTION
The Motion of the day was on the Non Payment of Teachers' Salaries across the Country by Senator Dino Melaye of Kogi West Senatorial District.
Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and Senators Sam Anyanwu, Ali Wakili and Jeremiah Useni supported the motion urging that the teachers should be paid to enable them serve the nation effectively.
Senate President put the question and the prayers of the Motion on the Non-Payment of Teachers' Salaries across the Country with amendments were adopted.
ADJOURNMENT
The Senate Leader moves for the Senate to stand down other activities in the order paper to next legislative day. Minority Leader seconds.
